Makan Dulu opened in 2020 as the training restaurant of the Sumba Hospitality School, part of the non-profit Sumba Hospitality Foundation. Our team includes students completing intensive practical training alongside experienced hospitality professionals, giving them the skills and confidence to build careers in hotels and restaurants in Sumba and beyond. Since the Foundation began in 2016, it has helped more than 500 Sumbanese young people access high-quality vocational hospitality training. Makan Dulu turns that mission into a guest experience you can take part in. By eating with us, you support a model where tourism creates real local opportunity and helps develop the people who will shape Sumba’s hospitality industry.
We serve Sumbanese food with an international twist for lunch, dinner and relaxed all-day dining, just five minutes from Tambolaka Airport. Our menu celebrates local flavours through dishes such as Sumba beef rendang, corn rice, Ro’o Luwa, grilled and braised seafood, satay, vegetarian dishes and traditional-inspired desserts. Guests can also enjoy Sumba coffee, fresh juices, homemade cashew milk, local-style teas, mocktails and cocktails. The restaurant also works as a practical classroom, with students involved in the kitchen and front-of-house service throughout their training. Whether you stop in after a flight, meet for a meal or spend time working with a view, your visit directly supports the Sumba Hospitality Foundation.
