Maringi Sumba was created by the Sumba Hospitality Foundation as a working hotel where travel can create lasting local opportunity. Set within the Foundation’s campus, we give young Sumbanese students the chance to train in a real hospitality environment under the guidance of experienced professionals. Sustainability is built into how we operate, from bamboo architecture and solar energy to wastewater management and our permaculture garden. By staying with us, guests become part of a wider education and community project that helps students build skills, confidence and pathways into employment. We believe tourism should protect Sumba’s natural beauty while ensuring local communities share in its future.
We offer a relaxed eco-resort stay surrounded by the green grounds of the Sumba Hospitality Foundation campus. Guests can unwind in distinctive bamboo accommodation, swim, enjoy farm-to-table dining, book treatments at our open-air spa or practise yoga in our bamboo shala. Our students also help introduce guests to Sumba’s landscapes, food and culture while developing their hospitality skills. Much of what guests spend at Maringi supports the Foundation’s educational work, so accommodation, dining and wellness become part of a wider purpose.
